Some snow but not in spate: Crossing rivers in the Cairngorms

A photo taken last weekend, during a visit to Mar Lodge near Braemar in the North-East Highlands of Scotland. Mar Lodge is a sporting lodge on the grounds of the Mar Lodge Estate. The lodge itself is not open to the public but the National Trust of Scotland rent out what used to be the stables for use by hillwalking groups. According to the National Trust website page on Mar Lodge, the estate occupies 7% of Cairngorms National Park. Which makes it a perfect place to stay for walking into the high Cairngorms mountains.

This photo was taken as we crossed the Luibeg Burn on an 11 hour trip over the Munros, Carn a'Mhaim and Ben Macdui, before we returned to the lodge via the recently renovated Hutchinson Hut. There's only a hint of the amount of snow up high on Ben Macdui.
